The past several decades have witnessed the professionalization of humanitarian action, which has sparked marked growth in academic attention to humanitarianism. Partly a repository for and source of new knowledge, and partly an educator of individual humanitarians, academic institutions across the globe have now developed training, centers of research and degree programs geared towards the humanitarian sector.
